Our Story
Born in a moment of grief
Vaso creates divine vessels to help you celebrate your undying love.
All our cremation urns are hand crafted from beautiful natural clay in Aotearoa New Zealand. Our makers are talented local artists, so every vessel is unique and perfectly imperfect.
How it began
My wonderful, spirited mother, Barbara, died in October 2023 after a long battle with dementia.
She was an amazing woman - full of life and generosity and intensely curious about the world. Her constant questioning and staunch feminism challenged me in so many ways - mostly good. And she instilled in us all an eye for beauty and an appreciation of good design.

When she died, I wanted to honour her with a beautiful vessel - something she would’ve chosen for herself and something to remind me of her - simple and stylish, yet slightly unpredictable and utterly beautiful. But I couldn’t find anything that would do her justice.
And then, fortuitously, I met Craig Spencer - a sublimely talented New Zealand ceramicist.
Craig has a beautiful aesthetic and a passion for making exquisite organic shapes - perfect for Vaso. And luckily, he splits his time between Aotearoa New Zealand and Queensland, Australia.

Together, Craig and I have designed and made a range of handcrafted cremation urns that we hope will help you connect with and honour the beautiful people and animals in your lives who are no longer with us.
We want you to smile every time you glimpse your Vaso vessel and think of that special person or beloved pet with love and fondness. We want you to treasure those Vaso moments.
In grief and love,
Bridgit
