Vaso was born out of a moment of grief
Our Story
My wonderful, spirited mother, Bar, died in October 2023 after a long and terrible battle with dementia. She was an amazing woman - full of life and fun and curiosity about the world and always so, so welcoming. She was super smart with an opinion about everything, and had an amazing eye for beauty and good design. And she was a fierce feminist who always challenged me to be so much more.

So when she died and we decided to cremate her, I wanted to honour her with a beautiful vessel - something she would’ve chosen for herself and something to remind me of her - simple and stylish, while at the same time artistic and slightly unpredictable.
I couldn’t find anything that would do her justice. And I felt certain others would be experiencing similar frustrations. So I decided to do something about it.

Fortuitously, I met Craig Spencer about the same time. Craig's a sublimely talented New Zealand ceramicist living and working in both Aotearoa New Zealand and Queensland, Australia. He has a beautiful aesthetic and a passion for making exquisite organic shapes - perfect for Vaso.

Together Craig and I have designed and made a range of handcrafted cremation urns that we hope will help you connect with and honour the beautiful people and animals in your lives who’ve passed away. We want you to smile every time you glimpse your Vaso vessel and think of that special person or beloved pet with love and fondness. We want you to treasure those Vaso moments.
In grief and love,
