Our Vaso urns are treated with all the respect and care you’d expect of a vessel designed to carry and treasure your loved ones. When you open the shipper you’ll find a beautiful, reusable, Vaso presentation box that protects our divine vessels as they travel. Vaso urns are also wrapped in recycled sheep wool and cocooned in a bed of loose wool to create a safe and supportive environment for every step of their journey. The wool is sourced here in Aotearoa New Zealand and can be reused for a multitude of things from craft and cushion stuffing to blister protection.
Generally a standard cremation urn holds 2-3 kilograms of ashes. But not all people are the same, so Vaso urns have been designed in three shapes and sizes (1, 2 & 3) to suit the various ages, stages and body types. The different designs vary in their capacities, so please check each urns particular specifications to ensure it’s appropriate for your needs.
In general:
1 - our largest Vaso urn is designed to house the ashes of a fully grown adult (up to 3 kilograms of ashes).
2 - our middle sized Vaso urn can house the ashes of a child or teen (up to 1.5 kilograms of ashes).
3 - our smallest Vaso urn would be appropriate for the ashes of an infant or baby (up to 1 kilogram of ashes). Size 3 Vaso urns would also be suitable for most household pets.
All our size 1 and 2 urns (large and medium) will be packaged and shipped in our 'Large' box which measures 41cm long x 29cm wide x 30cm high. In general, these larger urns weigh between 1.5 and 2.6kgs.
All our size 3 urns (small and momento series urns) will be packaged and shipped in our 'Small' box measuring 26cm long x 22cm wide x 22.5cm high. In general, these urns weigh between 0.38 and 1.1kgs.

All Vaso urns are made from beautiful, sustainable natural clay. They are hand thrown, fired and glazed on the inside only to create a gritty, natural texture. Each piece varies slightly in form and colour.
Many of us have experienced the heartbreak of not being there when a loved one dies or not being able to get to a special funeral or memorial - it feels like a double blow! For some people, the thought of having some of their loved one’s ashes close by can make up for not being there. So we designed small sharing vessels to enable portions of ashes to be shared with family members or friends. They’re easily transportable and provide a beautiful and unique keepsake. They can also be used to house ashes in multiple treasured places.
We’re really conscious of the place we call home and the need to create as light a footprint as possible. So we’ve tried to source all our clay and packaging from natural, sustainable or recycled materials. Being from Aotearoa New Zealand means we have to ship our precious vessels around the world so we’re offsetting our carbon footprint by planting trees with Trees that Count.
